I’m always really happy to get the chance to test out a new product for game developers. Sometimes though, real life gets in the way and sets you back on your original timeline. I recently got the chance to try out BlackGuards 2, available on steam. I was originally going to get my first impressions done several weeks ago, but real life got in the way (It does that when you work 2 jobs) and had me delay my chance to actually sit down and play this game.
Blackguards 2 is a turn-based strategy-RPG, with a hex-field play surface where you have a certain amount of spaces to move your characters. In your turn you can attack, interact with objects and explore around. While these types of games are not my favorite, BlackGuards 2 offered some very unique story-telling, and has a very good story that starts you off interested in learning more. The first intro cinematic is very gripping, and builds up the initial start of the game quite nicely.
You start the game playing the character of Cassia, a noblewoman of great beauty, who is married to a ruthless man, yearning for great power. Cassia is banished into “the Labyrinth” where she has to either survive or die…that is up to you.
I am looking forward to trying this game out in more depth over the next few weeks, which will allow me to write a full review, so stay tuned!
