Game Refraction: Jeff’s Top 5 Games of 2015

It’s safe to say that 2015 was a great year for games, and while there are a few games I wish I had played more, this is a list of my picks for the top 5 of this category.

5. Fallout 4 (Xbox One)2960464-fallout4_graph01

Fallout 4 grew on me the more I played it. It’s not the greatest game in the world, but after 70+ hours of gameplay, I can easy say it’s a fantastic experience nonetheless. The characters are some of the true high points in this series, and while the main story is an emotionless mess in some areas, the side quests and companion stories are just too well designed to worry about the glaring flaws in the games central narrative.

2503029-1755nordmountainview4. Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited (Xbox One)

Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim were great games and I enjoyed each and every one of them. As good as those prior games were in the series, Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited was just an incredible experience. Almost reaching max level and playing through almost all of the 3 factions available to you, I really enjoyed the variety in gameplay and the stories each faction had for you. ESO’s choice to drop the per-month subscription model before it launched on consoles was a smart choice and the game is just overall better for it. If you’ve enjoyed the Elder Scrolls games and want to enjoy them with friends, this is the title for you.

divinityreview43. Divinity: Original Sin (Xbox One)

This game came out of left field’s left field. I thought I wasn’t going to be fully engaged to this series hearing it had gone to a turned based affair, a combat style I usually loathe, but holy crap this game is incredible. The story and writing are superb, with interesting characters and the voiced back stories that come with them. The use of the environments and how they can affect the battle is ingenious. This is a must play game.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is without question the best action adventure game released in some time. Lara’s transformation into adventurer is in full swing here and the game hardly ever pauses to collect itself. It’s a fantastic game that carries forward from the almost equally impressive 1st game in this incredible rebooted franchise. With amazing visuals and well crafted level design, this adventure is a must buy.

The-Witcher-3-Wild-Hunt-Gameplay-Trailer-1280x7201. Witcher 3 (Xbox One)

Witcher 3 is incredible on so many levels. Most open world games don’t captivate me as much as this one did. I wanted to do everything, explore everywhere. The game world is just so well packed with interesting people and locations. The characters and story are just so well told; even the side quests are superbly well constructed. Gwent, the card game that you’ll find everywhere in the game is truly addictive and beautifully executed. The visuals CD Projekt Red brought to consoles are some of the best shown so far this generation. Witcher 3 is an absolute marvel of game design, as well as being a game that truly treats you like an adult.
