Despite a teaser trailer leak a few days ago, EA has now officially unveiled the latest entry in the Star Wars Battlefront series; the plainly titled Battlefront II. This latest entry will fill the time gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It’s also rather surprising that all events that take place in this game will be considered canon to the Star Wars universe.
The title will be released on November 17th with a full-length campaign that will see you play as a variety of Star Wars characters as well as a new character to the series, Imperial Commander Iden Versio, who swears to avenge the Emperor.
The prior Battlefront was criticized heavily for its shallow offering of multiplayer modes as well as lacking a story campaign and a season pass that cost as much as the game itself. It seems that Battlefront II will look to make good on all criticisms of the first game as not only do we get a story campaign and new modes, but EA has hinted that Battlefront II may not contain a season pass.
In a recent interview with Mashable, creative director Bernd Diemer said “We don’t want to segment our community.” and this was followed up by an official response from EA themselves:
While we’re not ready to confirm any live service plans just yet, what we can say is this we heard the feedback from our Battlefront community loud and clear. We know they want more depth, more progression, and more content. So we’re focused on delivering that in every dimension of Star Wars Battlefront II. We’ll have more to share about our plans soon.
It was also announced that an offline co-op mode will be exclusive to console versions of the game. This will allow two players to play locally and earn upgrades for characters they can use in online modes.
Should you preorder the title you will gain access to Last Jedi themed costumes for characters related to that film. Various editions of the game will be released that offer early play, upgraded versions of certain classes and more bonus content. It’s also expected that EA access users will have early access to the title, but no information regarding this has been announced as of yet.
Keep checking back for more information regarding Battlefront II leading up to its November 17th release. Until then, enjoy the trailer!
