Pax West 2016: Soulblight


When we walked up to Mynextgame’s booth at Pax, the Polish developer, Jakub Lisiński, offered us a piece of Polish candy. Not only did the game look good, the candy was excellent as well.

soul4Soulblight is a topdown rogue-lite game that takes the genre’s mechanics and expands upon them. What is different about Soulblight and other RPG’s is the lack of XP grinding. Soulblight uses a unique Trait System. While travelling through each of the shattered realities in the game, you’ll recieve personality traits based on your choices. These traits will be the main source of your strength. To harness them, you will have to act accordingly. Becoming an alcoholic means that you wil be rewarded for drinking and getting drunk, but from that point on you’ll find that being sober might prove to be unbearable.

Soulblight looked really interesting and I really enjoyed the art design. The game is top down, and combat is either a distance affair or really up close, depending on your weapons and those of the enemy. Soulblight was a real treat and check out the trailer for more of a visual look at the mechanics and features.
